EEEEEEEEEE YUCK!

How often do you clean out your machine?  No, really?  Once a week, once a month, once a year....like never?  Well, I learned long ago the importance of cleaning my sewing machine.  I sew every day, and our threads, quilters cottons and batting all shed lots and lots of fibers.  Even my sewing machine guy, Larry, says that I should clean it out about once a month!  Well, like I said, I sew every day and have found that the once a month rule does not apply to me.  I try to clean "Ellie" out at least every other week.  Here's why.....

This is only 2 weeks after a good cleaning!  Yes, I did quilt 7 quilts in that time frame, but this is awful!

I used this brush and a long nosed tweezer (thanks Cindy!) to get all this gunk out.  I know I am full of a lot of hot air, but I could never get this all out by blowing on it.

It's finally time to put in a new needle and get her all back together.  I have way to much sewing to do to leave her exposed!!

And here she is ready to start a new project!  I hope that this little show and tell gets you into the habit of cleaning out your best sewing buddy!

  1. I do very little sewing, but next time I do I think that I better start by cleaning out my machine as I have never cleaned it - ever! Poor machine, I didn't realise they could get like this! Better hup to and sort it out!! Happy sewing! xx

  4. It's amazing isn't it, how much gunk gathers in one's sewing machine!! I know that I always seem to be cleaning mine.

  5. I am always amazed at how much junk collects there. I actually clean my machine at least once a week.

  6. I give the bobbin thingy a brushout at least every couple of days depending on how much I'm sewing. And a 'deep clean' once a week or so.

  7. The dust accumulating on my sewing machine lately has all been topside :( When I am sewing regularly, I probably only do it once a month, or when I notice the fluff build-up when I change the bobbins. Wendy

  8. I clean Buss and Ellen, my sewing machines, every time I sit down at them and sometimes several times in one sewing sitting if there's a lot of lint building :D
