My Finished It Up Friday - Zipper Pouch!!!

I have been seeing zipper pouches on so many blogs, and knew I needed one for myself.  I don't have a pattern, and wanted to see if I could get one made before my Bee date. Sooooo.....

.....I grabbed a zipper that I already had, some 2 1/2 in squares I already had and set out on a pouch adventure!  I started chain piecing until there were 9 in each row.  Now, how wide do we need it?
I pressed the strips and lined them up.  I laid my dress maker scissor across, and that was what I wanted!!  Now for the inside.....

I really like pockets, so I knew I would need several.  I laid out the lining fabric right side up.  Took two scraps and folded them in 1/2.  They would work!!  I sewed them into a tube, turned, pressed and top stitched.  With the two layers, it is much more sturdy.  The pink side has 2 pockets, and the blue side has 3 pockets.  You have to make sure to sew the pockets in before sewing in the lining.

I quilted these 2 1/2 in squares in a simple grid pattern.  It was really fast and simple.  Once all of the quilting is done, Lay the lining down with pockets facing up.  Then you lay the pouch front side down onto the lining.  Cut all layers together and pin.

I had enough strips to make a nippers holder and a dress maker scissor holder!  I Still need to come up with a couple more pouches and holders.

With her big mouth, it is easy to grab what you need for your project.  She has 5 pockets on the inside.  The zipper was to short, but I think it turned out pretty good for my first attempt.

I can no longer say that I have not made a zippered pouch!  I have several more that need to be done, but it was great fun making these.  Mr Frog liked it so much, his eyes nearly bugged out of his head!

The finished zippered pouch measures 11.5 W x 8 L x 4D.  If you needed it to be a bit stiffer, you could use iron on med weight interfacing.  I used Warm & White batting.  It would be really easy to add outside pockets and handles.

Road Work Ahead!!!!

Here is my latest finished quilt!  I am so excited about how it turned out.

All of the fabrics have to do with 'road work'.  It just screams "little boy"!!  Do you see the tire track print for one of the borders?

I didn't have much fabric, so I couldn't fussy cut the way I would have liked.  Aren't the silhouettes of the road work signs in the cornerstones cute?

I did simple organic wavy line quilting.  I thought that this quilt called for simple lines.  Nothing to fancy for this little man.

This checkered flag print makes such a fun binding!

The same checkered flag print also makes great sashing.

I have never attempted a back with so many pieces.  It turned out just a little crooked, but I like it non the less!

I guess it can get kind of dizzying when you look at it from this angle!  It measures 44x44.  I hope you have enjoyed this "Road Work Ahead" quilt as much as I do!

Go on over to My Quilt Infatuation and check out all of the other "Needle and Thread Thursday" participants.  There are some super inspirational quilts and projects out there!  See the button below.

Where does it all come from?

I have been asked to explain where the donations (lemons) come from for all of my quilt tops (lemonade), so here is my story!  It all starts with very generous people that don't know what to do with their scrapes, yardage, BOMs, etc.  They are not always people that we know.  Word of mouth plays a big part in the fabric and projects that comes in.  We even have people that stop by quilting on Wednesdays to drop off donations!
We get large pieces and small pieces.  We get some newer designer fabrics, and some very old pieces that aren't even usable.  We even get kits and UFO's!  We have a couple of gals that donate tops that they know they will never finish.
What I have in my home is a very small sampling of what comes in.  It comes to us in bags, boxes and bins.  Above you can see a portion of my bundled quilt tops waiting to be cut and sewn!

We are in the last 2 weeks of NF Quilters, so these bundles were brought in for others to take home for summer projects!
The first 2 boxes have a lot of precut pieces.  I am looking forward to making something beautiful.  The third box is all plaids.  It will be fun to make an all plaid top.  That first box has a ton of strips of varying widths, ready for a colorful stripy quilt.  I want to try my hand at foundation piecing.  As you can see, I will have my work cut out for me for a long time to come!!  Thank you to all the generous people that donate to our worthy cause.  I hope that I have encouraged you to look into your stash and donate what you won't use.

I am linking to the Let's Get Acquainted Monday at Heart Of Charnwood!!  I want to encourage everyone to link up and check out all the quilty deliciousness!!

Don't forget about the Let's Get Acquainted-New Bloggers Blog Hop!  Brought to you by Beth over at Plum and June, thank you Beth!!  Here is the schedule for the rest of the hop.  Take time to visit all of these wonderful sites.  It is so inspirational!!!

Well, pooh...we missed Father's Day!!

I know that I missed Father's Day, but, can't we just give that fishing man in our lives a gift  just because?  Here is a great small quilt that could have so many uses.

This quilt is called "Fishing Star", measuring 31x31.  I meander quilted it with black thread.  The stars are made from fishing fabric with brown, red, blue, green and off white swirly/spec fabrics.  It will make a great addition to some lucky fisherman's wall, or perhaps a table topper for a mountain cabin by the lake.

I brought two more projects home today.  One that needs the binding sewn down and then hemmed, and one that needs to be completed sandwich style!  Tomorrow is going to be a 'me' day, so I should be able to get them both done.  We shall see how that goes!

Don't forget to go by the Let's Get Acquainted - New Bloggers Blog Hop!!  hosted by Beth at Plum and June!!  You can also scroll over to the button on the right, and click on the Blog Hop button.  Below, please find the entire schedule.  I encourage you to visit each site at least once during this month and next, there are so many wonderful blogs to see!
