I had several pieced squares and I cut some 2 1/2 in squares.
With the 2 1/2 in squares I made an arm pincushion with a thread catcher.
I used the leftover pieced squares just like I did for this completed flimsy! I even pieced it just like the larger version.
I thought it might be fun to try spiral quilting. I marked the center by drawing a circle around a quarter. I used my walking foot.
And started my journey. It was only difficult for the first 5 or so rotations. I will definitely use this method again.
I machine sewed the binding on. I decided to use the off white Aurifil 50wt, because that is what I used for the rest of the quilt.
I had to piece the back when I found out that the fabric I had was cut in half! I am really liking pieced backs now days.
This quilt measures 34x34, and will be used as a wall hanging. It is being donated to MDS**. You can read more about MDS (Mennonite Disaster Service) and what they do on my homepage tab. This is so pretty, Vicki! I love the reds and aquas together. I am collecting them so I can make one too...one of these days. My list just keeps growing longer! :) I admire you and that spiral quilting. I tried it on some Christmas pillows I made and couldn't get it started correctly. I will have to try it again because it is so pretty. That thread catcher/pin cushion is clever too. I'll have to put that on my list as well... :)
great use of scraps. I like to try to use mine up right away too. Front and back the quilt is wonderful!

The spiral looks great on the blue on the back. ALmost like a water ripple :) I recently tried out spiral quilting for the time, and I loved how easy it was. I thought it would be hard!! It's just awkward, really.
I really like the quilting. I would have thought that would be hard to do with the constant turning of the quilt.
Using up scraps is good and that is a perfect project, I love my scrap keeper, thanks for socializing!
Love your colour choices! I've yet to make a teal and red quilt, but I'm sorely tempted. The spiral quilting is very cool... I'll have to add that to my list of things to try!

I love your use of scraps. As I get on my quilting journey I have been wondering what to do with them myself and what size scraps to save and which to discard.
Also I think I'll try the spiral quilting on my first finished machine pieced quilt. Yours is so neat and I love the pieced back too.
