Trimming the tree!!

I am so excited to show you my latest project! If you have looked closely at my blog header, you have seen the page 'Who are MCC/MDS'. One of the board members from MDS has commissioned me to make a wall hanging to be auctioned off at their February all unit meeting. The theme is 'Fruitful Lives Produce Hope....The Tree of Life'. After googling 'quilts with trees', I ran across a pillow that I thought was perfect. It was a tutorial on Allison's blog, Cluck Cluck Sew!! After making a few changes and enlarging the design, I have made my 'Tree of Life' wall hanging!

I gathered together 26 different green scraps, using paperback fusible web, I set out to make all the leaves.  I found the perfect brown for the trunk and enough fabric for the two outer borders.

After arranging and rearranging until the perfect layout was achieved....I pressed all the pieces in place!

I attached the label prior to quilting with a zig-zag.

I raw edge appliqued the leaves and trunk in place, then quilted around each.

I attached the binding by machine.

I then echo quilted out from there. In the maroon boarder, I just did a wiggly line. The outer boarder was free motion quilted around all of the designs. I am really pleased with the way it turned out!

Final finished size is 37 x 36.  I pray that this quilt brings in a lot of money to help disaster victims world wide!!

I know that I would have lovely working with those colours. Such a great artistic result, even down to a backing fabric that so suits the front of the quilt. Thanks for sharing - great result.
